Setbacks

Setbacks

Sometimes we feel like we get on a great track, everything is flowing, we’re just getting it right. We say the right things, our minds and hearts are in the right place and we feel damn good.

Then it happens. We fall back into old habits, feelings or behaviors.

This happens to me with more regularity than I care to admit.

The first feelings are disappointment, shame, frustration and exasperation. This again?

Damn it. I was doing so well for a while there.

Here’s the thing. It happens. It doesn’t mean we aren’t making progress. It just means we still have more work to do.

I’m not saying that we let ourselves completely off the hook, but rather, see them for what they are, signs that you are still finding your way with something and that you will make progress if you pay attention to why you got off track.

Part of learning and growing is having setbacks. They make you stronger and show you where the weaknesses are. And if you pay close attention, you’ll notice that the setbacks are trying to tell you exactly where to go and what to do to grow.

It’s your job to pay attention and listen.

Next time, you will choose better. You will feel better, you will know better.

That's called a COMEback.
